Disney’s (DIS) “Inside Out 2” won the weekend at the domestic box office with a record $100M in the U.S. and $164.4M overseas in its second outing as it became the top grossing movie of the year with $724.4M. Only a handful of films have grossed $90M or more in their second weekend at the domestic box office. “Inside Out 2” sports a Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 93% and audience score of 96%, and has earned an A CinemaScore.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony’s (SONY) “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” placed number 2 with another $18.8M in its third outing for a domestic cume of almost $150M. Behind it was Focus Features and New Regency’s “The Bikeriders” with a $10M debut. “The Garfield Movie,” another Sony title, placed number 4 with $3.6M. Rounding out the top five, 20th Century and Disney (DIS) “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” grossed an estimated $3.6M.
